Zerohash Secures EMI License for Stablecoin and Brokerage Services in Europe

Zerohash has obtained an EMI license from the Dutch Central Bank, becoming the first company in Europe to receive MiCA authorization. This dual licensing will enable it to provide stablecoin payments in 30 countries, highlighting its leadership in cryptocurrency regulation.

Zerohash has solidified its leadership position in the industry by obtaining an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from the Dutch Central Bank. This makes the company the first in Europe to receive MiCA authorization and utilize EMI qualifications.

MiCA stands for “Markets in Crypto-Assets,” representing the EU's regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.

Why is Dual Licensing Necessary?

Unfortunately, the category of electronic money tokens (which includes most stablecoins) is regulated under both the MiCA directive and the Payment Services Directive (PSD2). A single license cannot cover both directives, hence the need for dual licensing to operate as both a cryptocurrency and payment service.

Zerohash successfully overcame this hurdle ahead of the deadline. According to BSC News, the company's Amsterdam subsidiary, Zerohash Europe B.V., received MiCA authorization from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) in October 2025, while the EMI license from the Dutch National Bank completed the required dual licensing.

How Will the Dual License Be Used?

Currently, Zerohash holds two valid authorizations, enabling it to provide stablecoin payments for institutional clients across 30 countries in the European Economic Area, fully compliant with all regulatory requirements.

“Europe has a vast market for stablecoin applications,” mentioned Roeland Goldberg, Executive Director of Zerohash Europe, in the announcement. He also noted that the company has recently expanded its Amsterdam office and established partnerships with more collaborators.

The Impact of Zerohash

The company has also submitted an application for a national trust bank charter to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, indicating its intent to actively pursue regulatory efforts on the other side of the Atlantic.

Zerohash's dual authorization and the acquisition of the EMI license set a positive precedent for the broader European crypto community. It demonstrates that obtaining the necessary authorizations and regulatory compliance is achievable, laying the groundwork for the development of “small” crypto asset service providers in Europe.
