Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain from cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, has recently launched a new tool designed to connect Base accounts with artificial intelligence agents for blockchain operations.
This tool allows users to directly manage their crypto assets through a chat interface powered by AI models, while also interacting with various crypto protocols, including Morpho, Moonwell, Uniswap, Aerodrome, Avantis, Bankr, and Virtuals.
According to Base, the AI agent will suggest an operation during the chat, and then the Base wallet will open in a new window, allowing users to choose to confirm or cancel the transaction. It is important to emphasize that the agent cannot access the user's private keys, and all operations must be confirmed by the user.
Base stated that every transaction suggested by the agent must go through the same review process that users see in any Base account request, with asset changes being simulated before user confirmation.
The Base MCP will also promote the adoption of the Coinbase x402 protocol, a standard for AI payment agents that Coinbase launched in May 2025.
Murr described the MCP as “a good encapsulation on top of an API.” When used in conjunction with x402, the MCP facilitates a new microtransaction economy, allowing agents to make small crypto payments.
Researchers noted that AI agents should clearly distinguish between commands and untrusted data to avoid attackers deceiving the agents by hiding malicious instructions.
