ADA Lands in 137 Swiss Spar Stores, Cardano Enters Crypto Payment Ecosystem

ADA has been integrated into the payment systems of 137 Spar supermarkets in Switzerland, with DFX.swiss facilitating fiat currency conversion. While it does not address the risk of double-spending, it marks a substantial step for Cardano in physical retail scenarios.

Cardano's native token ADA has recently been integrated into the payment systems of 137 Spar supermarkets in Switzerland. This collaboration was facilitated by payment service provider DFX.swiss, rather than a direct agreement between Spar and Cardano. Consumers can pay with ADA by scanning a QR code at checkout, with the back-end system converting the cryptocurrency into Swiss francs in real-time, ensuring that merchants always receive fiat currency settlements and do not bear the risk of price fluctuations.

The current market price of ADA is approximately $0.27, down more than 36% from its late 2025 high. It is worth noting that the Open Crypto Pay payment network has not deployed a dedicated double-spending protection mechanism for physical retail scenarios, considering it only a "theoretical risk." This stance may face regulatory and security scrutiny as the system scales.

Spar initially planned to extend crypto payments to 300 stores in August 2025, but as of now, the actual number of stores implemented remains at 137, on par with the initial scale of Binance Pay's launch. This indicates that although crypto payments have achieved initial implementation in the Swiss retail sector, their large-scale advancement is still in a slow climbing phase and has not yet achieved a significant breakthrough.
