Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently published a lengthy post on X, urging the entire ecosystem to reassess its technological paths, application forms, and cultural atmosphere. He proposed a core value framework called CROPS—Censorship Resistance, Open Source, Privacy, and Security—and emphasized that these principles must remain unwavering. Even while promoting innovation, the stability and decentralized nature of the underlying network must be upheld.

Buterin encouraged developers to break free from traditional thinking and boldly explore new paradigms for decentralized applications. He posed a forward-looking hypothesis: if AI technology renders wallets obsolete as browsers or mobile plugins within a year, are developers ready to reconstruct user interaction methods? This idea aims to stimulate early planning for the next generation of user entry points.

On the privacy and data front, he mentioned ongoing research into privacy networks both within and outside the Ethereum Foundation, including contributions from core members like Aya Miyaguchi. He also envisioned that DeFi News could evolve into a form of a “universal futures market” and explored new oracle systems driven by cryptography and AI to achieve more efficient and secure data verification mechanisms.
Culturally, Buterin did not shy away from the existence of controversial NFT projects like Milady within the community, viewing them as symbols of creative freedom rather than expressions of political stance. He encouraged developers to “take off their ties,” break existing frameworks, and unleash creativity. In his view, only by reimagining Ethereum from the ground up can its deep potential in decentralized finance, identity systems, and social networks be truly unlocked.
This call is not a denial of existing achievements but a philosophical reflection aimed at the future: in the wave of rapid technological iteration, how can we embrace unpredictable changes while adhering to our bottom lines?
