Pi Network Explores Decentralized AI Computing: OpenMind Pilot Reveals New Potential

Pi Network and OpenMind complete decentralized AI computing pilot, with 420,000 nodes successfully processing image recognition tasks in just 4 seconds, showcasing the vast potential of blockchain networks in the AI computing power field.

Pi Network recently partnered with robotics startup OpenMind to successfully complete a proof-of-concept pilot for decentralized AI computing. The trial aimed to assess whether Pi Network's vast distributed node system could effectively undertake artificial intelligence tasks, especially computationally intensive work such as image recognition. In the pilot, participating Pi nodes were assigned the task of processing AI-generated images. They verified their actual computing power by identifying objects in the images and returning results including bounding boxes and classification labels. Test results showed that the response time for computing tasks was approximately 1 second, with complete results returned in an average of only 4 seconds, demonstrating efficient and stable performance.

Currently, Pi Network has over 421,000 active nodes, covering more than 1 million CPU devices worldwide. It is worth noting that because the consensus mechanism of the Pi blockchain requires far fewer computing resources than traditional PoW networks, most of these nodes' computing power is idle, providing considerable redundancy for undertaking external computing tasks.

This distributed computing power infrastructure opens up new paths for decentralized AI computing. Compared to the centralized model that relies on large cloud service providers, this model is expected to reduce AI training costs, alleviate computing power monopolies, and achieve a fairer distribution of computing resources globally. OpenMind, as a team focused on the research and development of open-source robot operating systems, has extremely high computing power requirements for its AI model training and testing. This collaboration recognizes Pi Network's unique advantages in scale and energy efficiency. This pilot not only verified the application possibilities of Pi Network beyond blockchain but also laid a practical foundation for building a decentralized AI computing power market in the future.
