From 2018: How Bitcoin and Ethereum Achieved Nearly 20x Returns

Since the market bottomed out at the end of 2018, Bitcoin and Ethereum have embarked on a long-term upward trend. After a mild recovery in 2019 and consolidation in 2020, both experienced explosive growth in 2021. Despite the overall market correction in 2022, the two major crypto assets have demonstrated strong resilience and sustained growth momentum.

Data shows that from December 2018 to 2024, Ethereum's cumulative increase reached 2,269%, while Bitcoin's was 2,006%, both achieving approximately 20 times asset appreciation. This means that if an investor bought $10,000 worth of Bitcoin at the end of 2018, its value would now have risen to approximately $210,600; if invested in Ethereum, it would have increased to approximately $236,900.

Although in the short term, Bitcoin often performs more stably due to its liquidity advantage, while Ethereum, due to ecological expansion and upgrades (such as the Merge, EIP-1559), outperforms in specific periods, the return gap between the two is not significant over a seven-year span. This indicates that the 2018 market low was a golden entry opportunity recognized by long-term investors, and significant returns could be obtained regardless of which asset was chosen. Historical performance confirms the immense value of patient holding and early positioning in the crypto market.
