Tencent has recently launched a desktop AI assistant named WorkBuddy, designed to assist users in completing daily office tasks through natural language commands. Unlike general AI that focuses on model scale, WorkBuddy emphasizes deep integration with actual workflows, particularly highlighting strict control over data privacy and operational permissions.

According to official information, the tool began internal trials on January 19, 2026, and entered a closed beta testing phase two weeks later on February 6. Over 2,000 Tencent employees have participated during this period, covering various functional departments such as human resources, administration, operations, and sales, which has preliminarily validated its practicality in real office scenarios.

The core capability of WorkBuddy lies in executing multi-step complex tasks, such as automatically organizing documents, updating spreadsheet data, and generating presentations, all while strictly adhering to the user's explicit authorization. The system employs a sandbox permission mechanism that limits the AI's access to local files and applications, effectively reducing the risks of data leakage and operational errors while enhancing efficiency. This 'security-first' design philosophy makes it a highly representative case in the realm of enterprise-level AI assistants.
