Coinbase Launches Compliant Crypto Futures Trading in Europe

Coinbase launches regulated crypto futures in 26 European countries, offering Bitcoin, Ethereum, and index contracts with up to 10x leverage and trading fees as low as 0.02%, promoting compliance in the crypto market.

Coinbase has officially launched regulated crypto futures products in 26 countries and regions across Europe, marking a significant step towards compliance in the region's crypto derivatives market. The service is available to traders in countries such as Germany, France, and the Netherlands through the Coinbase Advanced platform, offering a variety of contract trading options, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and selected stock indices. Previously, European users often relied on unregulated trading platforms to access crypto derivatives due to the complexity of local regulations. Now, Coinbase fills this gap by launching two types of futures products: one is a perpetual contract with an hourly funding rate mechanism and daily settlement, and the other is a regular contract with monthly or quarterly delivery and daily mark-to-market valuation. Both products are cash-settled, ensuring compliance and transparency.

Transaction fees are as low as 0.02%, excluding exchange and clearing fees. In addition, the platform has added innovative index contracts such as the “Mag7 + Crypto Equity Index Futures” to help investors diversify across digital assets and traditional markets. Users only need to complete standard KYC verification, pass eligibility checks, and fund their accounts with EUR or USDC to start trading in the “Derivatives” section of the Coinbase Advanced web or mobile platform. This move is a key part of Coinbase's strategy to build an “all-in-one trading platform.” By integrating crypto assets, stock indices, and financial derivatives, the platform is gradually evolving into a one-stop comprehensive financial service. At the same time, well-known brokerage Interactive Brokers has also launched Micro Bitcoin and Micro Ethereum futures issued by Coinbase Derivatives, LLC, offering both monthly expiry and perpetual formats, providing institutional and individual investors with low-cost, 24/7 risk management tools. As the regulatory framework gradually improves, the European crypto derivatives market is ushering in a safer and more professional trading environment.
