Starknet, an Ethereum Layer-2 solution, recently announced the launch of STRK20, a new infrastructure designed to support the issuance of privacy-preserving stablecoins and other digital assets. The framework, developed by the StarkWare team, is slated for official launch later this year.
STRK20's core objective is to provide granular transaction privacy for assets deployed on Starknet while ensuring compliance. This means that users' account balances and transaction details will not be publicly disclosed when conducting transfers, DeFi News transactions, or staking, while still maintaining seamless compatibility with existing decentralized finance applications.
Notably, STRK20 is compatible with Ethereum's mainstream ERC-20 standard, meaning that a large number of existing Ethereum tokens are expected to gain privacy features through this technology, thereby expanding more financial scenarios with high privacy requirements. StarkWare co-founder and CEO Eli Ben-Sasson said that this technology is expected to significantly accelerate institutional adoption of stablecoins by enhancing transaction confidentiality without sacrificing efficiency and compliance, bringing substantial upgrades to financial infrastructure.
Despite the attention garnered by the technological advancements, the price of the STRK token has fallen by 73% in the past year, reflecting a temporary disconnect between market sentiment and project fundamentals.
Currently, Starknet is working to promote the implementation of this framework in real-world application scenarios, and it may become an important benchmark for the integration of privacy computing and compliant finance in the future.
