Ripple Eyes Australian Financial License to Boost XRP Cross-Border Payments

Ripple Labs has announced plans to acquire an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) to further expand its cross-border payment services in the country. The move aims to provide local financial institutions, fintech companies, and large enterprises with more efficient and compliant fund transfer solutions, leveraging blockchain technology to enhance the speed, transparency, and reliability of global fund transfers.

Fiona Murray, Managing Director of Ripple APAC, stated that obtaining regulatory approval is a core component of the company's global strategy. As a key market, Australia's AFSL approval will significantly enhance Ripple's ability to promote Ripple Payments in the Asia-Pacific region. By integrating digital assets and blockchain networks, the company is committed to building a trusted financial infrastructure and continuously collaborating with regulators to promote the industry's healthy development.

To achieve this goal, Ripple plans to complete the license application process through the acquisition of Australian local payment company BC Payments Australia Pty Ltd. Once the final compliance procedures are completed, the company will fully control the entire transaction lifecycle service, including customer onboarding, anti-money laundering compliance, fund settlement, foreign exchange, liquidity management, and final payment. Currently, Ripple has obtained legal operating qualifications in multiple countries and regions, including the UAE, Singapore, Ireland, New York, and Japan. The acquisition of the Australian license will further solidify its leading position in the global compliant digital payments sector.
