Wells Fargo Applies for WFUSD Trademark, Positioning for Crypto Payments and Blockchain Services

U.S. financial giant Wells Fargo has submitted a trademark application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the name WFUSD, aimed at covering a range of financial services and software tools related to crypto assets. The application covers a broad scope, including core business modules such as cryptocurrency trading, exchange, payment processing, financial brokerage services, and electronic transfers of virtual currencies. In addition, the trademark application also involves a series of blockchain underlying technology support services, including downloadable software systems for digital asset staking, Non-Fungible Token (NFT) access, crypto wallet management, and digital asset transaction execution. Wells Fargo has also included asset tokenization, blockchain transaction verification, identity authentication and data transmission tools in decentralized applications (DApps) in the application, demonstrating its in-depth layout of the entire blockchain ecosystem service chain. The application also mentions financial information push services that provide real-time price data for smart contracts, indicating that it is trying to open up the connection channel between traditional financial data and on-chain protocols. Although trademark registration is not equivalent to the official launch of a product, such applications are usually regarded as an important signal for companies to plan future digital financial services. As one of the four largest banks in the United States, Wells Fargo's move further confirms the continued attention of traditional financial institutions to stablecoins and blockchain technology.
