Despite announcing plans to deepen its involvement in the crypto space, Metaplanet's stock price declined. Metaplanet Ventures will invest ¥4 billion in building Bitcoin financial infrastructure in Japan and invest in JPYC stablecoin. Investors are cautious about the revenue potential of the new initiatives.
Despite management's announcement of plans to deepen its involvement in the crypto infrastructure and financial services space, market data shows Metaplanet's stock price closed at approximately ¥352, down about 4.6% on the day.
Metaplanet Ventures will focus on investing in companies building Bitcoin-related financial infrastructure in Japan. The company plans to deploy ¥4 billion over the next few years in areas such as lending, payments, custody, derivatives, compliance tools, and stablecoin infrastructure.
"Metaplanet Ventures is our commitment to the Bitcoin ecosystem in Japan. We will invest ¥4 billion over the next few years in companies building Bitcoin financial infrastructure in Japan," the company stated.
The venture arm will also launch an incubator for early-stage founders and provide grants to open-source developers and researchers working on Bitcoin-related technologies.
Gerovich stated that Japan already has one of the strongest digital asset regulatory frameworks in the world but still needs more companies to build the infrastructure needed for institutional adoption.
The first investment from the new venture arm will be up to ¥400 million into JPYC, which operates Japan's first licensed JPY-denominated stablecoin.
This expansion reflects Metaplanet's broader ambition to position itself as a bridge between traditional finance and the emerging Bitcoin capital markets ecosystem.
The stock market reaction to Metaplanet remains cautious, with the share price decline suggesting investors may be awaiting clearer details on the revenue potential of the new initiatives or when the venture investments might translate into returns.
Metaplanet is increasingly positioning itself as a corporate advocate for Bitcoin adoption in Japan, a strategy similar to that taken by other publicly traded companies integrating digital assets into their broader financial strategies.
