Hormuz Strait Crisis Fuels Adani Total Gas Stock Surge, Up 32% in Five Days

Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL) has seen its stock price surge significantly over the past five trading days, accumulating gains of over 32%. The stock continued its upward momentum on Friday, climbing to ₹644.85 at one point, a rise of over 6% from the previous trading day's closing price of ₹607.60. As of this writing, the stock is trading at ₹614.70. Natural Gas Prioritization

The backdrop to ATGL's stock surge is the Indian government's issuance of the Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026, which mandates the prioritization of natural gas allocation to critical sectors, driven by the ongoing conflict between Iran and US allies severely impacting the nation's natural gas supply. ATGL is a city gas distribution company that supplies piped natural gas (PNG) to households, commercial, and industrial consumers, and compressed natural gas (CNG) for transportation. The company recently notified its industrial users to curtail consumption, citing a tight supply situation. In a statement, the company said, "The company appreciates the timely efforts taken by the Government for issuing the above order and prioritizing the gas supply for domestic PNG and CNG customers and PNG supplies to industrial and commercial customers."

Hormuz Strait Closure Persists The disruption to India's gas supply is due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The country relies on imports for over half of its gas needs, with a significant portion of that supply transported through the Strait of Hormuz, which is currently blockaded by Iranian forces. Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has stated that the closure of the maritime passage should continue as a "tool to exert pressure on enemies." Analysts believe that the current situation will take some time to change.
