Crypto Mogul's Nevis Island Project: $100 Monthly Payments to Residents Spark Controversy

Crypto mogul Olivier Janssens proposed paying Nevis Island residents $100 monthly if his tech community development plan is approved, sparking controversy and accusations of influencing public opinion. The project plans a $50 million infrastructure investment and profit-sharing. Former Coinbase CTO proposed a similar initiative.

A Belgian-born crypto mogul, Olivier Janssens, has reportedly proposed paying Nevis Island residents $100 per month if the government approves his plan to build a tech-friendly libertarian community in the Caribbean. The $100 monthly figure is a significant increase from the initial 30 Eastern Caribbean dollars (approximately $11 USD) announced in November 2025.

Daly urged authorities to investigate potential violations of the Anti-Corruption Act related to the initiative. The project plans to invest $50 million in Nevis Island's infrastructure, funding hospitals, health centers, villas, and creating more job opportunities, while sharing 10% of profits with citizens and another 10% allocated to Nevis Island's sovereign wealth fund. Cointelegraph has contacted Destiny for comment on the project's approval timeline. Crypto founders are building their own cities as part of an “ultimate exit” plan. Former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan also announced a similar initiative at the Network State conference in Singapore in October 2025. Srinivasan also shared a document showing that a total of 120 “startup societies” are under development worldwide.
