Vitalik Buterin Proposes Update to Simplify Ethereum Node Software

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin proposed simplifying node software into a unified code structure to lower the technical barriers for ordinary users and introduced partially stateless nodes to further decentralize the network.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin released a proposal on Saturday aimed at merging the backend programs used to interact with the Ethereum Beacon Chain into a unified code structure, thereby simplifying node setup. The Beacon Chain is responsible for consensus and staking, and this update will reduce the technical complexity for ordinary users running their own infrastructure, forcing them to rely on third-party service providers.

Buterin stated on the X platform, “I feel like at every level, we’ve implicitly made the decision that running a node is such a daunting DevOps task that only professionals can handle it.” He further added:

“Even those who can afford high-end computing hardware and have technical expertise often lack the time to set up a node. Nodes should be easy to use.”

To further decentralize the network, Buterin proposed the concept of partially stateless nodes. This would lower the hardware costs and data storage requirements for users running nodes for personal use, such as sending transactions and verifying the blockchain.
