The significance of this collaboration lies in the integration of Metaplex's tokenization platform with K Wave Media's intellectual property portfolio, showcasing how blockchain-supported digital assets can enable new funding sources, enhance fan engagement, and attract international capital. This effort explores on-chain asset issuance, governance, and distribution models for cultural IPs such as K-pop, dramas, films, and music shows, helping to illustrate how cultural IPs move within a global liquidity network while clarifying regulatory considerations.
Metaplex founder Stephen Hess stated, “K-culture has established some of the most influential digital communities globally.”
The next focus will be on the collaboration between the Metaplex Foundation and K Wave Media, which will drive the tokenization of K-culture IP.

At the Metaplex summit in Seoul, the growing momentum of bringing Korean entertainment and cultural content on-chain was discussed.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU), these organizations will collaborate to integrate Metaplex's tokenization platform with K Wave Media's cultural IP portfolio to develop new models that connect globally influential content with digital assets, global fan communities, and internet-native capital.
The project will investigate how blockchain technology can support the issuance and management of digital assets related to Korean entertainment and cultural content, including K-pop and other well-known K-culture IPs. These models are expected to create new participation opportunities for fans, creators, and investors in the global K-culture economy.

Hess added, “The collaboration with K Wave Media allows us to explore how this cultural IP flows on-chain, broadening funding sources through global liquidity and unlocking new content distribution methods. As technology continues to reshape community formation and online participation, such initiatives highlight the increasingly intersecting trends between culture and the digital economy.”
During the 2026 Metaplex summit, which took place on March 6 in Seoul, the Gaon project was introduced, inviting leaders from Korean financial institutions, investment firms, crypto protocols, legal organizations, and media.
The conference discussed the growing opportunities for tokenizing Korean cultural IP using blockchain infrastructure, including how digital assets can create new connections for content creators, global fans, and internet-native capital markets. Attendees also exchanged views on the evolving regulatory landscape and the broader role of blockchain technology in digital asset issuance.
At the event, K Wave Media's Yangtae Kim and JaeHa Lee outlined how the organization positions itself to transform the Korean IP market by combining content pipelines with new participation models, linking digital assets, fan communities, and decentralized finance (DeFi News).
