A former Los Angeles County sheriff's official has been sentenced to over five years in prison for assisting cryptocurrency founder Adam Izak, known as the 'Godfather,' in extortion.
Koberg pleaded guilty in September, admitting to participating in a conspiracy to commit extortion and infringe on the rights of others.

Izak admitted to extorting multiple victims in January 2025 and is currently awaiting sentencing.
The prosecution detailed Koberg's involvement in extortion and drug fishing incidents. According to the prosecution, in October 2021, Koberg participated in an operation that picked up a victim referred to only as 'L.A.,' who had a business dispute with Izak. Koberg took L.A. to Izak's residence, where Izak recorded a video of L.A. transferring $127,000 to Izak's bank account while Koberg monitored the situation.

The prosecution noted that Koberg also conspired with Izak and others to set a trap for another victim referred to only as 'R.C.,' who was arrested due to drug issues. Koberg and others orchestrated a fake operation, where R.C.'s ex-girlfriend called to lure them to Los Angeles for drug use. R.C. was picked up at the airport, taken to obtain drugs, and ultimately arrested by sheriff's deputies who had been tipped off by Koberg.
The prosecution stated in Koberg's sentencing memorandum that he abused the 'great power of the badge, motivated solely by greed, a situation that is all too common.'
