Western Union has partnered with blockchain payment platform Crossmint to jointly launch the USDPT stablecoin based on the Solana blockchain, creating a new digital asset network. This network aims to integrate the stablecoin with Western Union's existing global payment system, allowing users to quickly convert digital dollars into local currency through over 360,000 cash withdrawal points worldwide, facilitating efficient cross-border fund transfers.
Crossmint stated that its platform has served over 40,000 clients, providing core services such as smart wallets, fiat deposit and withdrawal channels, and cross-chain stablecoin management, offering infrastructure support for institutional-level digital asset applications.
Cross-border remittance has always been a core business for Western Union. In traditional models, international fund transfers often take several days to complete, with fees typically reaching several percent, and do not support processing on weekends and holidays, limiting efficiency. The emergence of stablecoins presents a transformative possibility for this scenario—blockchain-based USD stablecoins can achieve near real-time settlement, significantly reducing transaction costs and enhancing fund turnover efficiency.
Especially in emerging markets, the application of stablecoins is accelerating. Data shows that the volume of on-chain funds received in sub-Saharan Africa continues to grow, reflecting the immense potential of digital assets in inclusive finance and cross-border payments.
