Law enforcement agencies from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada have officially launched 'Operation Atlantic,' a coordinated effort to combat fraud in the cryptocurrency space, dismantle criminal networks, and enhance cross-border collaboration to curb illicit activities in the digital asset sector.

This joint operation brings together law enforcement powers from multiple countries, including participation from agencies such as the U.S. Secret Service, the UK's National Crime Agency, the Ontario Provincial Police, the Ontario Securities Commission, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the City of London Police, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, and the UK's Financial Conduct Authority.

'Operation Atlantic' specifically targets victims who have suffered or are facing cryptocurrency losses. One common scam technique highlighted is 'approval phishing,' often associated with 'pig butchering' online investment scams, where victims are unknowingly induced to gradually transfer substantial funds to scammers over time.
This initiative builds upon the 'Project Atlas' launched by the U.S. Secret Service and the Ontario Provincial Police in 2024. Compared to the earlier 'Project Atlas,' 'Operation Atlantic' has incorporated more international partners, significantly strengthening cross-border enforcement capabilities and further solidifying the international front against cryptocurrency fraud.
Through the combined efforts of these three nations, law enforcement is demonstrating a tougher stance against cryptocurrency fraud, working to bridge regulatory gaps and enhance accountability within the digital asset space.
