Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently proposed a new mechanism called the “Fast Confirmation Rule,” aimed at significantly improving the transaction speed and confirmation reliability of the Ethereum network, thereby providing users with a smoother and more trustworthy experience.
Accelerating Transactions, Enhancing Capital Efficiency
The implementation of this new rule is expected to enable various platforms to deploy capital more effectively and enhance liquidity by accelerating transaction confirmations. For cross-chain bridges and transaction processing services, this will significantly reduce the risks and costs associated with delays.
Buterin pointed out that the current operation of the Ethereum network is based on two core security assumptions: that a majority of validators behave honestly and that the network can maintain transaction delays below three seconds. Although the Fast Confirmation Rule does not provide the robustness of full economic finality, it offers sufficient reliability for the vast majority of practical application scenarios.
Smooth Upgrade Without Hard Fork
The Fast Confirmation Rule is expected to be implemented in the coming months. Notably, this update does not require a hard fork, meaning it can be deployed without affecting the current operational state of the Ethereum network.
