Recently, the Bitcoin transfers by Bhutanese government agencies have caught the attention of market participants. According to data from on-chain analytics platform Arkham Intelligence, the country transferred a total of 973 BTC on Tuesday and Wednesday, with an estimated total value of around $72.3 million.
Arkham's report indicates that approximately $44.4 million worth of Bitcoin was sent to two unknown wallet addresses in just the past 24 hours. These transactions are reportedly initiated from addresses associated with Bhutan's sovereign wealth fund, Druk Holding & Investments.

Among these transfers, a particularly notable transaction involved sending 20.5 BTC (approximately $1.52 million) to the over-the-counter (OTC) platform QCP Capital. Such transactions are typically used for large asset sales, allowing them to occur without impacting market prices.
According to Arkham's data, Bhutan has processed over $110 million in Bitcoin transfers since the beginning of the year. The country's current Bitcoin reserves are estimated to be around 4,453 BTC, valued at approximately $330 million. Bhutan's Bitcoin holdings peaked at over 13,000 BTC in October 2024.

Bhutan primarily established its Bitcoin reserves through mining operations powered by hydropower energy. However, Arkham notes that there have been no new inflows exceeding $100,000 in the past year, which may indicate that the country has halted its mining activities.
Analysts suggest that such large-scale transfers related to the government could exert potential selling pressure on the market, but since most transactions are conducted through OTC channels, their direct impact on prices may be limited.
