Reform UK Receives Multi-Million Crypto Donations, Regulatory Scrutiny Looms

According to the Financial Times, Reform UK received another £3 million (approximately $4 million USD) donation from Thai-based crypto investor Christopher Harborne in November 2025. This marks the second donation of this magnitude the party has received in a short period, further expanding its political funding pool.

Harborne was a significant donor to the Conservative Party during Boris Johnson's tenure and invested approximately $13 million in Nigel Farage's Brexit Party between 2019 and 2020, becoming one of the most critical individual funders in right-wing British politics. As Reform UK's influence rises in opinion polls, its sources of funding are also drawing public attention.

Notably, this substantial donation comes as the UK government considers banning political parties from accepting cryptocurrency donations. In recent years, the anonymity and cross-border fluidity of digital assets have made them a blind spot in political finance regulation. Multiple parties within the UK Parliament have called for increased transparency, requiring all political donations to be made through traceable bank accounts to prevent potential foreign interference and money laundering risks. Although no legislation has been enacted yet, relevant discussions have entered a substantive stage.
