The privacy protocol Umbra has shut down its hosted frontend website to prevent attackers from transferring stolen funds from a recent security incident using the protocol. Umbra noted that approximately $800,000 in funds had been transferred through its protocol, and while the main function of the protocol is to conceal the recipient's identity, related transactions can still be traced on the blockchain.
This measure was implemented following an attack on the Kelp protocol, which suffered losses exceeding $280 million. Umbra stated that it will restore frontend services once it confirms that asset recovery efforts are not affected, but it still cannot prevent users from continuing to use the protocol through smart contracts or self-hosted frontends.
